AUBRIETIAS

What a world of colour and beauty there is about these lowly plants, and how soon they adapt themselves to their surroundings. The present is a good time to break clumps up, and to strike cuttings. They are very hardv, quick of growth, and most profuse blooming. There are many new colours among them, ranging from pinky shades to almost crimson tints, to deepest purple. Auhrietias are charming for the rock warden, for bordering, and for small beds on the lawn. They will also grow in shaded spots, but the growth is inclined to be straggly; nevertheless they help to brighten up the dull corners. A raised rose border is an ideal plac* to plant a double row of aubrietias, especially if mixed shades are used, as like tlie lupin family, nil shades seem to blend. . The aubrietias are among the earliest of spring flowers, and nothing is sa much admired as drifts, and wide edgings of this popular plant.—* Manawatu
