HEAVY SHOWERS—HAIL 0B SNOW POSSIBLE The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay - A very deep westerly depression of the present series is crossing the Dominion, while is rising over south-eastern Australia. Forecast: Strong west to south-west winds to gales. Weather cold and boisterous, with heavy showers and possibly hail or snow. Seas rough to high. RAIN FOLLOWS FROST. Though rain fell last evening, frost to the extent of 6deg was registered prior to the fall, making the second frost of the year, the other being 2deg on April 18. The rain was still in evidence this morning, though a cessation occurred about 11 o’clock, when signs of an improvement in conditions were noticeable. The temperatures at the Gardens this morning from 9 o’clock until noon were 43de<r maximum and 36.5 deg minimum, while the registrations over 24 hours yesterday were 50.7 and 34.2 deg, rainfall being ,28in. Barometric pressure was rising at 29.1 in at noon to-day, there being no wind.
