FAILURE TO REJOIN

HAVAL RATING MISSES SLOOP SWAN [Pan United Pkbss Association.] AUCKLAND, April 22. Only one man, a rating from the sloop Swan, failed to rejoin his -ship before the departure of the Australian Squadron for Jervois Bay on Wednesday. The missing man returned to H.M.S. Philomel to-day. He will be placed on board the first available passenger steamer and sent back to Sydney, where he will be dealt with by the Australian naval authorities. Two other men, who are both in Auckland Hospital suffering from pneumonia, were left behind when the squadron sailed. At the request of Rear-Admiral Lane-Pool, they will be looked after by the New Zealand naval authorities, who will make arrangements for their return to 'Australia when they are discharged from hospital.
