RECORD FLIGHT TO ENGLAND SCENES OF ENTHUSIASM ON ARRIVAL Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, April 10. linunui and Tsukagoshi completed their flight of 10,000 miles in 3 days 22h and lOmin. They were cheered by a large crowd, and were greeted by the Japanese Ambassador, Lord Sempill, Commander Perrin, of the Royal Aero Club, and the Director of Overseas Aviation. A message from Sir Philip Sassoon stated: “It is a pleasure to welcome you here on behalf of British aviation, and I congratulate you on the splendid record you have established. We all appreciate the friendly spirit in which you set out from Tokio to visit us, and are glad you reached us safely and with great success.” When linuma and Tapkagoshi reached Le Bourget they had fcearly halved the previous record for the flight between Paris and Tokio. Flights from the Far East to Europe have been fewer than those in reverse directions. The post office made arrangements for the Japanese flyers to broadcast to Japan. ONLY TEN HOURS SLEEP LONDON, April 10. The Japanese airmen had only 10 hours’ sleep in four days during the flight. linuma said there was no terrific adventure on the journey. It was mainly uneventful. The airmen will remain for the Coronation.
CELEBRATIONS IN JAPAN TOKIO, April 9. Three days’ celebrations are being held at Osaka and Tokio to commemorate the Divine Wind’s flight. In the Sinano province, which is linuma’s birthplace, there will be pilgrimages to the shrines, where prayers were offered throughout the flight. THE RETURN FLIGHT LONDON, April 9. The Japanese airmen propose to fly a Coronation newsreel to Tokio within four days.
