“GANGSTER” CRICKET
BODYLINE BOWLING CRITICISED WORST BLUNDER OF GAME Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, April 9. (Received April 10, at 11 a.m.) Under a chapter headed ‘ Torso Bowling,’ E. H. D. Sewell scathingly criticises hodyline in his book, ‘ From a Window at Lords.’ He says: “Of all the blunders committed on the cricket field, even though its commission helped to win the rubber, intensive fast bowling, with a regular synod of six, seven, or eight men on the leg side, was the worst. It was only a kind of ‘ gangster ’ cricket. The only merciful thing was that it did not happen at Lords.”
