The Manawatu Autumn Meeting was opened in glorious weather, and there was a very large attendance. The co.urse was in perfect order. Time, Imin 52 2-ssec, Haut Monde, Korero, and Master Cyklon were disputing the lead half a mile from home, where Chief Ranger, Taitoru, Boomerang, Royal Secret, Mandamus, Lord Moutoa, and Big Dook was the order of the remainder. Big Dook made up ground crossing the top, and joined issue with Haut Monde in the straight, and eventually got the verdict in the last stride. Boomerang also finished on well behind Korero. There was no pace on in the first part, and Hazoor was showing the way at six furlongs, with Wild Chase and Arctic King next. Wild Chase went up to Hazoor at the half-mile, and the order into the straight was Hazoor, Wild Chase, Catalogue, and Arctic King. Wild Chase was in charge at the distance, and he was doing his best at the finish to beat Catalogue by a length and a-half. Arctic King was a neck away, just in front of Hazoor. JOHNSTON MEMORIAL HANDICAP, £2OO. 6f. 1— BEN BRAGGIE, 8.13 (B. H. Morris) 1 5 Peter Beckford, 7.13 (P. Atkins) 2 3 Lady Ina, 7.7 (W. J. Won by a neck, with two lengths between second and third. Hunting Mars was fourth. Time, Imin 13 2Peter Beckford and Ben Braggie led to the home turn from Great Hope and Lady Ina, and the first two fought out a hard finish, Ben Braggie winning narrowly. Lady Ina finished on ahead of Hunting Mars and Severe.
