CORONATION BALL

The committee appointed at a special meeting convened by the mayor to make the necessary arrangements for running a Coronation ball has lost no time in setting the wheels in motion. Preliminary arrangements are now completed, and patrons are promised something that will be worthy of the occasion—an event that will linger long in the memory of those attending it. A dance of this description, to be effective, must have a distinctive setting, and to this end the work of producing the decorations has been left in the very capable hands of Mr J. D. Charlton Edgar and Mr Leonard Hill. Those two gentlemen were mainly responsible for the decorations at the Arts Ball, and on this occasion they have every intention of surpassing their previous efforts. _ As might have been expected, the_ main theme decided on for this occasion is a regal and imperialistic one, for which the Town Hall adapts itself admirably. Dancing being the main feature of the evening, especial attention has been paid to the orchestra, and to this end Mr M'Clatchy has been entrusted with the_ assembling of the best dance band artists in Dunedin.

One of the diversions of the evening will be the welcome reappearance of Stan. Lawson’s ballet. Mr Lawson and his associate, Miss Powell, have just returned from Auckland, where their training of ballets created something of a furore. This will he the ballet’s first public appearance since their return, and something special will be forthcoming.

Finally, no Coronation ceremony would be complete without a regimental band, and, thanks to the courtesy of Colonel Macpherson, the officer commanding the Otago Regiment, the Regimental Band, under the baton of Mr L. Aston, will participate in the function in a very appropriate manner. Full details will be published later, but in the meantime it is sufficient to say that this function will be presented on a scale never before attempted in Dunedin.
