—Ministerial.— Tbe Hon. F. Jones, Postmasters General and Minister of Defence, ars rived by air from Wellington yester-J day, and during the afternoon was- en* gaged in hearing private deputations* This morning the Minister, who is ac-« companied by his private secretary; (Mr, F. M. Sherwood), was engaged! in departmental business. On Monday; Mr Jones will leave by motor and) visitj Milton, Balclutha, and Owaka, return-* ing to Dunedin the same night. Oi* Wednesday afternoon the Minister will officially open the new Post Office. Mr J. J. Rogers, superintendent of the Auckland Gas Company,' left on his return to Auckland by the express to-day. Mr W. F. Watters, accompanied by Mrs Watters, travelled to Christchurch; by train this morning. Mr P. Neilson, M.P., arrived from Oamaru by the afternoon express yesterday. He will return north on Monday. Mr Walter Jones, editor of. the ‘ Southland News,’ is at present on a visit to Dunedin. Consequent upon the retirement of Mr G. A. Lewin as a member of the Renewal Fund and Sinking Fund Commissions, the town clerk (Mr R. A. Johnston) will be appointed, at the meeting of the City Council on Monday night, to fill the respective vacancies. Mr Jajos Steiner, the Hungarian chess champion, arrived by the express from the north yesterday afternoon* and was met at the station by Mr J-: J. Marlow (president) and members of the Otago_ Chess Club. He was accorded a civic reception in the evening.Mr Steiner will remain in Dunediai until Friday next, giving exhibitions of chess each evening. . Latest guests at the Grand Hotel are Miss O. B.
