DRINK IN CAMPS RUMOUR
FOUNDED ON PRIVATE CONVERSATION [Per United Pkebs Association.] BLENHEIM, March 12. Whether or not there was excessive drinking by public works employees at Kaikoura he was not able personally to say, said Mr T. E. MaunseW, chairman of the Wairau Licensing Committee, when interviewed at Nelson this afternoon by telephone on the remarks of the Minister of Public Works (Mr Semple), following the request made by the Wairau Licensing Committee for a report from the police at Kaikoura. Mr Maunsell said that the information had been given to him in a private conversation, and might well prove to be unfounded. Nevertheless, the rumour existed, and he wished to know whether it was true or not. Me was not concerned with whether there was drinking or otherwise at public works camps. All he wished to know was whether or not licensees in Kaikoura were conforming with the law. 'I hat was the object of asking for a report from the police.
