JOHANNESBURG’S BUILDING RECORD
The official figures from the Johannesburg city engineer’s department show that the record amount of £9,775,180 was passed in building plans in Johannesburg last year. . This exceeds 1935 by approximately £3,265,000 and sweeps away all previous records, i _ This extraordinary rate of building in ! Johannesburg is likely to be exceeded. The value of work done last year is three times what it was in 1930. An authority on building said recently that Johannesburg would soon he doing £1,000,000 a month of new building work. ■
