PLIGHT OF MADRID

EARLY FALL POSSIBLE CIVILIANS FACING STARVATION Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, March 12. (Received March 13, at 2 p.m.) The Australian Associated Press learns that practically the whole of the civil population of Madrid to-night is starving, and that the capital, whose early fall seems possible, faces disaster, accompanied by the Government’s extinction. The non-combatants, who are the meet severely hit, are unable to force a surrender because the militia possess the foodstuffs and' are not concerned about the civilians, whose plight is so desperate that the British residents are sharing rations with them. Disturbances at Valencia suggest disruption among the Government forces. Trade unions have forcibly resisted the Government forces, resulting in considerable fighting.
