BUSINESS ON METAL EXCHANGE TIN OUOTA SURPRISE Press. Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, March 12. (Received March 13, at 2.15 p.m.) The International Tin Committee fixed the quota at 110 per cent, of the standard tonnages for the second quarter of 1937, the estimated result, 2,71 H) tons a month, being added to the stocks of the participating countries. The committee has been requested to permit the export of the available tonnages from the mines, irrespective of the quota limits. 1 This will be the subject of later adjustment. ■ The Committee says the quota can be revised' if .desirable, later, but at pre-sent-it is important to check the recent rapid rise. Frantic scenes were witnessed on the metal exchange, - following - the quota surprise. Tin opened ,at £25 below tho overnight price. Every telephone was besieged and the price fluctuated wildly between £270 and £277. Tin recovered i sharply during " the morning session, however, and closed at £290 10s.
