STINSON AIR DISASTER
FINDING OF INVESTIGATION COMMITTEE Preu Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, March 12. (Received March. 13, at 1 a.m.) The Air Accidents Investigation Committee presented its report on the Stinson air disaster. _ It expressed the opinion that the pilot, ■while attempting to fly over the , Macpherson Range close to the summit, encountered a down current of air in excess of the maximum climbing rate of .the aircraft, and of such strength that the piano collided with the tree tops before it could be manoeuvred away from danger. The wind force at the seen© and time of the accident was about 60 miles an hour. The committee heard evidence of the severity of the up and down currents on the lee side of. the mountain ridge where the accident occured, but it was unable to determine whether there was any mechanical defect in the engine owing to the fact that it was destroyed by fire.
