The attendance - was only fair, but. those present were treated to an interesting afternoon’s racing and quite a number of close finishes. The course presented an excellent surface, but after several days of wet weather was dead and the times were slow. The cup race provided an excellent finish between Amy Johnson, who commenced her run about three furlongs from home, and Ashaway, whose final run was delayed until the straight was entered. The latter just got up in the last stride to score for Mr-Fred. Moore, one of the oldest members of the executive of the club. ‘ The steeplechase' proved to bo the best of good things for Faculties, also owned in the district; and first favourite. He was" well (handled by Rex Beale, and gave'an" excellent exhibition of clean and fast jumping. As he is only a five-vear-olcl he looks like making a useful steeplechaser. Silk Paper was sent out at a very short price for the Flying Handicap, and though she had " only a narrow margin from Rebel Chief at the post appeared to have something in hand. The Tradesmen’s Handicap produced another good finish between Linguist and Half Note.
