■ —Vice-Regal,—■ The Governor-General (Viscount Galway) arrived at Auckland yesterday, after a coastal trip in. the Government lighthouse steamer Matai, during which, he spent several days deep-sea fishing off Cape Brett. His Excellency will leave for Wellington on official business on Monday evening, and expects to return to Auckland on Thursday. —Ministerial.— The Prime Minister (Eight Hon. M,J. Savage) will arrive in Dunedin at 7.7 on Monday morning from the north. Later in the day he will be the guest of the. Chamber of Commerce at luncheon in the Somerset Lounge of th« Savoy, and on Tuesday he will be the guest of the Rotary Club at lunch. Mr Savage will leave by the afternoon express on Tuesday for Invercargill. The Minister of Public Works (Hon.R. Semple) and the Minister of Mines (Hon. P. C. Webb) travelled yesterday from Queenstown to Glenorchy and Paradise. The Ministers heard deputar tions at the head of the lake and returned in the evening to Queenstown, where they were entertained by the local branch of the Labour Party. Today they left for Pembroke, and will later visit other Central Otago districts. Dr J. R. Ritchie, of the Health Department, left this morning for Wellington. ' Sir Robert Muir, retired professor of pathology at the University of Glasgow, who has been visiting Australia and New; Zealand, left for the north to-day. Mr F. W. C. Walslehen, who has been postmaster at Mosgiel for the past 13 years, has received notice of his transfer to Richmond, Nelson. Mr G. Cross left this morning for Wellington. Brigadier-general Sir Joseph Byrne, Governor of Kenya, arrived at Auckland from Rotorua yesterday, and will leave on Tuesday for the South Island. A Press Association cable ‘ message from London states that General Sir Herbert Lawrence has resigned the chairmanship - of Vickers Ltd. According to a Press Association cable message from London, the ‘ Daily Telegraph ’ understands that an • engagement will be announced shortly "of a member of the House of Commons. Lord William Scott, the Duchess of Gloucester’s brother, aged 26 years, and Lady Rachel Douglas Home, tha daughter of the Earl of Home. Lord William Scott is the Duke of Gloucester’s most intimate friend. A farewell luncheon to Mr C. M, Croft, who is leaving New Zealand shortly after nearly 14 years as Canadian Trade Commissioner, and Mrs Croft, was given by members of the Consular Corps in Auckland. The acting dean of the corps (Mr A. M. Ferguson) presided. A greenstone-tiki was presented to Mr Croft by Mr Ferguson on behalf of the Consular Corps.Mr Ferguson referred to Mr Croft’s long association with New Zealand, .to his successful work in the Dominion, and to the esteem in which he is held.
