MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY
AWARDED TO MINE WORKER GRESFGRD DISASTER RECALLED (British Official Wireless.) Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, February 19. (Received February 20, at noon.) The King has awarded the Edward medal for gallantry to J. E. Samuels, a coal-cutting machine man, in recognition of his coolness, courage, and qualities of leadership after the explosion in the Gresford colliery; in September, 1934. The disaster will be discussed in the House of Commons on Tuesday next, on a motion tabled by the Labour Party expressing deep concern at the conditions revealed by the inquiry, and the opinion that a grave responsibility rests upon the country and Parliament to secure maximum safety in mines.
