NATIONAL PARTY POLICY
“ PUBLICITY NOT YET POSSIBLE " An indication that the National Party had not yet reached the stage in its organisation where its policy could be announced publicly was given by the leader of the party, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, in an interview with the Christchurch ‘ Press ’ yesterday. Under the terms of the new constitution of the party, Mr Hamilton said, the policy proposals must first be considered by each branch of the' organisation before _ the central executive could give its final approval and allow the details to be made public. That stage had not yet been reached, although excellent progress was being made. When asked about the suggestion that it would be_ necessary to enunciate the policy, -if only for the direction of the Prime Mim ister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, when attending the Imperial Conference, Mr Hamilton said that if Mr Savage asked for the views of the Opposition he would only be too glad to inform the Prime Minister of them. Mr Hamilton said that his present visit was being made with the idea of consolidating the organisation of the National Party, and he was being kept busy meeting members of the various committees and assisting in the co-ordination of their work. At the moment the committees were unifying the efforts towards completing the entire organisation of the party. It was emphasised by Mr-Hamilton that the National Party was a new party. The Reform Party and the United Party went out of existence at the last election, he said, and there was now_ an entirely new party, aiming to weld into the one group all organisations opposed to the policy of the Labour Government.
