HOMER SADDLE TUNNEL
MINISTER DISSATISFIED WITH PROGRESS NEW MACHINES TO BE ORDERED [Pee United Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, February 18. The Minister of Public Works paid a visit of inspection yesterday to the work of constructing a tunnel through the Homer Saddle to link up the Hollyford and Eglinton Valleys with Milford Sound. After thorough inspection the Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress being made, though he absolved men employed on the job from any blame for this "state of affairs. Probably, he said, the machines being used were faulty, and he was accordingly taking steps to order new machines which would he able to cope with the class of materia] encountered, and would reduce the cost, which, under the present conditions, was excessive.
