OBSTRUCTION ON RAILWAY
CHARGE AGAINST MAORI FAILS [Per United Press Association.] WANGANUI, February 18. In the Supreme Court to-day Hon Rawhiti, a young Ratana Maori, was found not guilty of placing an obstruction on the railway hue near Ratana. Evidence called by the Crown showed that a fishplate, weighing 9b, and: a do<r spike, both deemed capable ot derailing a train, had been placed on the rails just prior to the arrival of the New Plymouth-Wellmgton express at Ratana on November 1. Surfacemen found this obstruction, removed it and accosted the accused', who,, with his small son, aged four years, was seen near the locality. The jury was absent only a few minutes, and returned with the diet as stated. /
