FIRE RAISER CONVICTED

[Per United Press Association.! WANGANUI, February 18. In the Supreme Court Paul N©dwell, aged 67, a single man, was found guilty by the jury of wilfully setting fire to his dwelling house, thereby committing the crimq of arson. The hearing lasted three days and a-half, a second trial being ordered when the first was three parts completed on account of the brother of the accused being seen talking with a juryman. Counsel for Nodwell, Mr V. B. Willis, made an eloquent address lasting an hour and 40 minutes. The jury was absent for two hours and including an hour for lunch, and, delivering its verdict, made a strong recommendation to mercy on account of the prisoner’s stiite of health. The accused was remanded for sentence.
