DUNEDIN SITTING COMMENCED FIXTURES FOR HEARINGS The Arbitration Court—His Honour Mr Justice Page (president) and .Messrs W. Cecil Prime and A. L. Monteitb. (assessors) —-commenced a sitting in Dunedin this morning. Fixtures for hearings of cases were made as follow: —• Monday, February 22, at 10 a.m. — Butchers’ dispute. In this case Mr A. S. Cookson, for the employers, asked that an award be made in terms of the recommendation from the Conciliation Council.: The clause relating to underrate workers was the only clause referred to the court.—Mr W. Herbert saidi objection was taken to portion of the award providing for clerks on the ground that the rules of the Butchers’ Union did not provide for clerks. — It was claimed for the employers that the young ladies in shops were employed as cashiers and did not dk) clerical work. —It was agreed to deal with the point raised on Monday. Wednesday, February 24, at 10 a.m.—Tramway employees’ , dispute and interpretation. Motor and horse drivers’ award (application to strike out parties). Thursday, February 25, at 10 a.m.— Rowley v. Milburn Lime and Cement Company Ltd., claim for compensation. Friday, February 26, at 10 a.m.— Rowley v. Milburn Lime and Cement Company (second! day). Monday, March 1, at 10 a.m.— Kidston v, Schneideman and Sons. (A fixture for further hearing of the case at Invercargill will be made later.) Tuesday, March 2, at 10 a.m.— Metal workers’ assistants’ : dispute. It was stated that in this case there was a complete agreement, but a fixture was desired for the hearing of an objection. At 11 a.m.: Electrical workers’ dispute. Mr Cookson said the question of applications for partial exemption in this case would have to be argued. Wednesday, March 3, at 10 a.m.— Quarry Workers’ dispute. General Labourers’ dispute. It was stated that there were a number of matters in dispute in these cases. Thursday, March 4, at 10 a.m.— New Zealand Insurance Workers’ dispute. His Honour said the only reason for setting this case down for Dunedin was to hear any who desired to object to inclusion in the award. Friday, March 5, at 10 a.m.—Clerical Workers’ dispute. In this case, it was stated, there was almost a complete recommendation, but the court would require some time to deal with applications for exemption. Monday, March 8, at 10 a.m.—Performing Musicians’ dispute. It was stated that in this case there would be a number of objections by parties. Tuesday, March 9, at 10 a.m.—lnterpretation of the Dunedin Local Bodies’ Labourers’ award. At 2.15 p.m.—lnterpretation of the Dominion Engineers’ award. Wednesday, March 10, at 10 a.m.— Application to add parties to the Ware-

housemen’s and Soft Goods awards. In a number of cases the court agreed to make awards where there were complete recommendations from the Conciliation Council. In other cases the recommendation had not been received from the Conciliation Commissioner, and His Honour intimated that such would be made into awards when they were received, if in order. Two days were allowed for at the conclusion of the Dunedin sitting, said His Honour, on which cases for which tentative fixtures had been asked might be set down. His Honour said the court proposed to leave Dunedin on the morning of Wednesday, March 17, and to sit at Invercargill at 2.30 p.m. the same day.
