TRAGEDY BEHIND COURT CASE

CHRISTCHURCH, February 18. Phillip Grimshaw Hamilton, dairy farmer, aged 62, did not appear when his name was called in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. He was dead. “ I ask that the case be struck out,” said the police prosecutor, Sergeant R. Henry. A silent nod from the magistrate (Mr Lewy) . indicated that the application was granted. Behind these terse proceedings lay a tragedy. Hamilton had been found hanging from a rafter af his home in Waimairi road. A constable was called to the house at 9 o’clock this morning and removed the body.
