WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL MISSION BOARD
The Day of Prayer under the auspices of the Women’s International Board of Missions was observed on Friday at First Church. In the course of the day a large number of women of many denominations and representing many missionary societies assembled. "The morning session was held in the hall. Mrs Bardsley presiding. Mrs Bardsley spoke of the Day of Prayer,'- beginning with New Zealand and"tho Fiji Islands, and as the day progressed women would be gathering, she said, in China, India, Arabia, Africa, and so on, till after some 40 hours the day would close in Canada and in an island off the coast of Alaska. Mrs Bardsley then introduced the them© for the day—“ Thou Art the Christ,’ reading from St. Matthew’s Gospel, chapter xvi. A short period was given to prayer, and Miss Beckingsale, of India, then gave an address, her subject being * The Outcasts of India.’ In the afternoon Sister Jean Porteous (Dominion president ofjthe Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union) presided. Miss Porteous spoke of the Day of Prayer in 1936. and the theme for the afternoon, ‘ That They May Be One,’ reading from St. John’s Gospel, chapter xvii.
