MOVEMENTS. —Coastal.— VVainni sailed last evening for Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne, via ports. Waipahi arrived this morning, and is to sail this evening for Bluff. She will return to load and sail on Tuesday for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth via ports. Storm was scheduled to load here tins afternoon for Wellington and W"\nganui via Tiniiiru and Lyttelton. will sail this evening. Wairaarino, from Auckland via ports, is to arrive this evening. Breeze is due on Saturday troin Bum. to sail for Wellington and Wanganui via ports. . , Port Whangarei will load here on Saturday for Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui via Timaru and Lyttelton. Vwahou is now due on Monday to load, and sails the same day_ for Wellington and New Plymouth via Timaru and Lyttelton. ~ , Holmglen is due on Monday to load for Timaru, Lyttelton. Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. Waipiata leaves Auckland to-morrow for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and Timaru. She is due here on Wednesday nest. Gale is expected here on February ‘’s from Wellington. After discharge she will dock at Port Chalmers for cleaning and painting, and will return later to Dunedin to load for VV ellington and Wanganui via ports. —Overseas. — Durham arrived at Port Chalmers tills morning to complete discharge of Liverpool cargo. She will come to Dunedin to-morrow morning, and is scheduled to sail on Monday for Lyttelton, Wellington, Opua, Auckland, and Wanganui to load Homeward. Hula was due this afternoon with explosives from Melbourne, She has been sheltering on the coast. Polzella is expected to come to Dunedin to-night to complete discharge of Ocean Island phosphate. Karctu arrived at Bluff this morning, and will leave there to-night for Dunedin, where she is expected to-morrovy. fihe will sail on Saturday for Timaru and Lyttelton. Omana is now due here on Sunday from Adelaide direct. After discharge at Dunedin the vessel completes at Lyttelton, Wellington, and Portland. Canadian Highlander is due this afternoon from Halifax via northern ports, ' Sydney Maru,_ from Japan via northern ports, is now scheduled to call at Bluff before berthing at Dunedin. She is due here on February 23 and sails three days later for northern ports to continue loading for Japan. Zealandio is due here on February 21 from London and United Kingdom ports to load. She will sail finally on February 26 from Port Chalmers for Southampton via Cape Horn and Las Palmas.

Anhalt, from Gulf of Mexico via northern ports, is due hero on March 6. Port Nicholson, from Wnikokopu, is due on February 20. and will sail on February 24 for Wellington. She sails finally from that port on February 27 for London via Cape Horn. Bencruachan is expected to arrive at Port Chalmers from Bluff on February 24, to sail two days later for Dunkirk.

Huntingdon will return to Dunedin from Bluff on February 24 to complete loading for United Kingdom ports. She sails on February 26 for London direct Arawa left Southampton on January 22 for Wellington. Lyttelton, Port .Chalmers, and Bluff. She is due at Wellington on February 27, and Dunedin on March 4. Keifuku Mam left Miike on February 3 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, She is due at Auckland on February 25, and Dunedin on March 5.

Surrey is due at Duendin on March 8 from New York via Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton. Cambridge is due hero on March 16 from Liverpool via main northern ports. Port Denison, from New' York v! ’ Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton, is scheduled to arrive here oil March H. Hauraki left New’ Westminster on February 5 for Papeete, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on March 4 and at Dunedin about March 15.

Port Hobart is duo here on March 18 from Liverpool via main northern ports. Opawa, from London, discharges at Port Chalmers, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Nelson. She is due here on March 24. INTERISLAND EXPRESS. The interisland express steamer Rangatira arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.40 this morning. Passengers and mails for the south connected with the express. AUSTRALIA-NEW ZEALAND Aorangi was to leave Sydney to-day for Auckland, where she is due on Monday. Omana, from Edithburg, Port Lincoln, and Adelaide, discharges at Dunedin, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Portland. She Is due here on Sunday. Karetu loads at Newcastle, Sydney, and Port Kembla for Bluff, Dunedin, Timaru, and Lyttelton. She is due here to-morrow. Wanganella leaves Wellington tomorrow for Sydney, where she is expected on Tuesday. Marama left Melbourne yesterday for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington. She is due here on February 23. TRANSPACIFIC MAIL SERVICES. —Northbound. — Aorangi was to leave Sydney to-day for Auckland, Suva, and Honolulu. She is due at Auckland on February 22 and at Vancouver on March 12. Niagara is to leave Sydney on March 18 for Auckland, Suva, Honolulu, and Vancouver. She is due at Auckland on March' 22 and at Vancouver on April 9. —Southbound. — Monterey left San Francisco on February 10 and Los Angeles on February 11 for Honolulu, Pago Pago, Suva, and Auckland. She is due at Auckland on February 26, and is to sail the same day for Sydney. No call will bo made at Melbourne on this voyage, and the Monterey will leave Auckland again on her 'schedule date, March 6. Niagara was to leave Vancouver yesterday for Sydney via Honolulu, Suva, and Auckland. She is due at Auckland on March 8 and at Sydney on March 13. Aorangi is to leave Vancouver on March 17 for Honolulu, Suva, Auckland, and Sydney. She is due at Auckland on April 5 and at Sydney on April !°. . ATHENIC LAUNCHED. Under charier to load Australian wheat for the United Kingdom, tho steamer Athenic was recently launched from the yards of Wra. Gray and Co., England. The vessel, which is being built for Sir Walter H. Cockenline, of Hull, is a sister ship to the Germanic, which was launched last October. Specially designed for economic service, she is being fitted out with the most modem equipment to make her a general trading vessel suitable for all conditions Included in her equipment will be an up-to-date cold-storage chamber and refrigeration plant. Her apparatus will include a modern sounding device and special electric lighting facilities for the handling of cargo. HOMING PIGEONS AT SEA. Homing pigeons are still in common use as message carriers in at least one trade. The seine trawler, Cellina, which visited Gisborne recently to undergo annual survey and overhaul, carried a crate containing a homing pigeon. A member of- the crew explained that it was a regular practise for trawlers such as the Cellina, which operated at sea for perhaps two or more days,- to send messages- ashore by the pigeons, informing the shore agents of the size of the catch and other information, such as the amount of fuel oil left in the bunkers. MARAMA TRANSHIPMENTS. The Marama, from Melbourne, carries transhipments ex the following vessels:—Orion, Maloja, Romolo., Triton, and Mosel. MELBOURNE MARU IN JAPAN.
