COMPETITION FOR CHILDREN

SAND-BUILDING AT ST. GLAIR LIFE-SAVING DEMONSTRATION Arrangements are well in hand for the children’s carnival at St. Clair beach on Saturday next. Through the kindness of Mr Arthur Barnett, £2O is available in prizes for castle-building in the sand. The competition will be divided into five grades* according to age, starting at eight years and going up to 12 years. There will be 15 prizes of £1 each for the best castle in the various grades, and £5 for the championship. It is expected that there will be several thousand competitors, as entry is free. In addition to the competition the St. ; Kilda and St. Clair Surf Clubs will stage an aquatic display, featuring surf activity, canoe racing, and life-saving demonstrations. Added. features will be a treasure hunt, pony riding, and many other interesting attractions for the younger children. The carnival is being organised by thd Hundred Thousand Club, assisted by many prominent people and organisations. .
