Our Auckland correspondent telegraphs :—Business on the Exchange has been well maintained and a substantial turnover has been recorded over the past 24 hours. At this morning’s call there was a free market, and a fair number of advances were noted. The banking section was more active than usual. New Zealancls again showed a slight improvement, with sales higher at 40s 6d, after winch the market was steady between 40s 4d and 40s 7d. Bank of Australasias were very firm, with a market between £l2 17s 6d and £l3 7s 6d, while fi.S. and A.’s sold 2s Gd higher at £6 7s 6d. . Insurances were firm, and South British and New Zenlands each gained sixpence, with sales at 99s and 625. Auckland Gas shares were weak, and offers to sell at 21s 9d brought no response from buyers. The brewery section again came in for special attention. Dominions bad a market for the ordinary shares (ex rights) between 39s and 435. The preference were quoted from 40s to 435, and “ rights ” from 10s to 14s. Meanwhile. New Zealancls moved up to buyers at 59s 3d and sellers at 60s. Australian issues had good inquiry, and Broken Hills sold threepence higher at

83s, and at the call buyers offered 84s, with sellers holding out for 85s 6d. Mount Lyells changed hands sixpence higher at 455, after which buyers moved up to 80s 9d without securing a transfer. Government stocks were in demand, with inquiries for the full list at late rates.
