UPHOLSTERY STATIC
ELECTRICITY GENERATED Tn some cases in which the interior of the car is upholstered and trimmed with leather or artificial leather, there is a tendency towards greater and more _ stubborn ignition interference than is found in cloth trimmed cars. In order to eliminate noise in leather trimmed cars it is sometimes necessary to shield the aerial lead-in wire for ipractically its entire longth or from a point about Sin from where it leaves the antenna. This should be done with a very low capacity shielded conductor, one of the type in which the conductor is spaced from the shield by several layers of cotton braid and impregnated with wax. It may also be noted that while driving there is an annoying scraping sound in the radio set. .This is probably due to static electricity generated by the friction of the passenger’s clothes on the upholstery. Interference of this nature will be more noticeable during dry, cool weather, and will disappear during damp wehtber.
