YOUNG MEN'S ADVERTISING SOCIETY
The Dunedin Young Men’s Advertising and Business Society met in the Chamber of Commerce rooms on Thursday night last, there being a large attendance. Mr A. Warren was in the chair. Mr L. H. Frude. the speaker for the evening, gave an instructive address on ‘ The Organisation and Successful Operation of Business Societies.’-
He pointed out the many pitfalls which confronted clubs of this nature, and suggested methods of remedying these defects. He also gave many helpful hints and suggestions on ‘ Oratory, and stressed the vital importance or members of a business club being able to address an audience. In conclusion, Mr Frude complimented the promoters of the society, which was the only body of young men in Dunedin to study advertising business. MR H. R. G. M'ELREA An Ashburton Press Association telegram records the death of Mr Henry Ross Campbell M'Elrea, aged 54, woolbuyer. He was born at Ashburton, and was a borough councillor for over 25 years. Ho was the founder and an ex-president of the Advance Ashburton Association, president of the St. John Ambulance Association, an ex-president of the Boxing Association, a judge at local boxing tournaments, and a member of the High School Board. In his early days he was a keen Volunteer and rifle shot, meeting with success at Trentham. lie leaves a widow, two sons, and a daughter. MR W. B. Private advice has been received of the death in India of Mr Walter Burley Griffin, landscape architect, whose plan of the Australian Federal capital was awarded first prize in the international competition, and who, in 11913, was appointed director of design aud construction of the Federal capital. He also planned the town of Murrumbidgee and the irrigation _ area. Ho was a native of Illinois, United States. Ho was aged 61.
