TRAGEDY IN MANCHURIA HUNDREDS BURNED TO DEATH Press Association—By Telegraph —Copyright TOKIO, February 14. (Received February 15, at 11 a.in.) A theatre built of wood and plaster and crammed with 1.500 people caught fire at Antung, Manchuria. Hundreds, mostly women and children, were burned to death or trampled down and suffocated. Six hundred and fiftyeight bodies have been recovered. The gallery collapsed and the yelling crowd jammed the meagre exits. Kntire families perished. The fire originated from a candle in the actors’ room at the back of the stage ami spread to 30 adjoining houses, which were destroyed.
