Mr Yuki Las'slashed the Foreign Office Budget but has left intact appropriations for establishing a Legation in South Africa and a consulate general in New Zealand. EXPANSION OF TRADE KEGESSARY TOKIO, February 14. (Received February 15, at 10.5 a.m.)\ “ Expansion of foreign trade is an indispensable condition to Japan’# national development,” said General Hayashi in opening the Diet. The Government would do everything possible to eliminate obstacles. General Hayashi repeated his desire to improve British and American friendship and hoped for closer contact with China with a view to finding a solution of the problems, He urged the Soviet to take a broader view of Japan’s position in East Asia and described the anti-Cpmmnnist agreement with Germany as timely and imperative.
