•• POSITIVELY DREADFUL ” RECORD FINED £IOO FOR SLY-GROBGIMG, [Pee United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, February 12. Found guilty at his third trial on each of two charges of selling liquor without . a license, Bernard Lewis Blackwell was fined a total of £IOO by Mr Justice Northcroft in the Supreme Court. The fine was £SO on each charge, and the penalty for default of payment was fixed at six months’ imprisonment on each charge. Blackwell was allowed two months in which to pay. ; The offences of which Blackwell was found guilty took place in the Ashburton no-license area. At the first trial in Timaru the jury disagreed, and at the second trial, also in Tiinaru, a verdict of guilty on both charges was returned. The case was. taken to the Court of Appeal, however, and the verdict was quashed, and a new, ( trial was ordered. . “ Your record is positively dreads, ful,” said His Honour to Blackwell.’ “ You have 31 separate convictions involving drunkenness, disorderly behaviour. indecent language, and sly* grog selling.”-
