NEW SEASON’S WRESTLING
WALTER MILLER'S PLANS EXCHANGE BETWEEN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND Mr Walter Miller, promoter for the Dominion Wrestling Union, returned to Auckland by the Niagara from Australia. Accompanying Mr Miller was Earl M'Cready, the well-known Canadian wrestler. They continued their journey to Vancouver by the same boat (says an exchange). M'Cready has spent the last two seatons in New Zealand, and has had 105 matches all told, 54 in 1935 and 61 last year. Ho suffered but one defeat, that being in an open-air match at Carlaw Park towards the end of last year. However, in a subsequent match at the Town Hall, M'Cready defeated the former holder of the world’s championship title During his recent brief sojourn in Australia, M'Cready had half a dozen matches, and he won them all. He has been offerel a big inducement to return to Australia next season, and, in the event of his accepting, he has promised to stay in New Zealand on his way back to Canada. Mr Miller said that the presence of M'Cready, Wade, Blomfield, and others had given the sport a great boost in Australia. Promoters over there had already arranged for a team _ from America next season, while he himself would select a number of men in the first flight. It was almost certain that «n exchange would be made between the men coming to Australia and to New Zealand, so that the public would be assured of plently of, variety. “ The past season in New Zealand was easily the best on record,” said Mr Miller. “ The receipts were practically doubled from those of the previous year, and so every inducement has been given for the selection of another strong team. Among the wrestlers 1 have in mind to approach are Cliff Olson, of America, ranked ns ono of the best in the world at the moment; Sammy Stein, a name known to every follower of the sport in various parts of the world; Jack Forsgren, of Canada, whose forceful tactics made him a great favourite when he was in the Dominion last year; John Katan ; of Canada; A 1 Mercer, of France; Little Beaver, a North American Indian; Mike Misurkie, of Russia; A 1 Getwitz, a Polish-American; J. O’Dell, an IrishAmerican; and Andy Moe, Vic Christie, and Leo Newman, all of America.” Mr Miller added that he expected to return to New Zealand early in April. Until he reached America, he would be unable to definitely fix up contracts with the men he had named, but be felt certain that he would be able to arrange for a team which would not disappoint the public of New Zealand.”
