CHANGEABLE, SCATTERED SHOWERS The following weather report was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts: Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmdon Bay:—Pressure is fairly high to the north, and an anti-cyclone of slight intensity covers South-eastern Australia, but a secondary depression is ■ crossing the South Island. Forecast: Moderate to strong south-westerly winds, decreasing tq-morrow, and turning to northwest again in southern parts. Weather changeable and with scattered showers, but mainly in southern coastal areas. Temperatures moderate; seas moderate north of Nugget Point, rather rough to rough, then southwards. BAROMETER STILL DROPPING. Since December 30 of last year barometric pressure has evinced a tendency; to drop. On that date the registration was 30.20 in, and to-day at noon 29.25 in, remaining steady. There was no wind this morning, but with a partially overcast sky temperatures did not show any signs of rising, having become cooler since yesterday. The readings at 12.30 p.m. to-day were 86.9 deg maximum and 58deg minimum, while at the same time on the preceding day 71 and 67 degrees were registered/ Over a 24-hour period yesterday the maximum was 67deg and the'minimum 48.5 deg. Rain commenced to fall early, yesterday afternoon and continued intermittently all evening, but the fall was only a lights one and .04in was registered. This morning broke fine, but at noon indications were not promising. Following a thunderstorm at 1 o’clock, heavy rain began to fall.
