WEATHER FORECAST

SOME SCATTERED RAINS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the Southern districts —Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— Though pressure is still rather low in the far south, an anti-cyclone of considerable intensity is moving on to Northern New Zealand. Forecast: Moderate to strong west to north-west winds, increasing gradually, but changing to south-west again by morning. Weather mainly fair to fine and mild, but some scattered rains probable, more especially in coastal and western areas. Seas slight to moderate, but rising in the Foveaux Strait area. CHANGEABLE WEEK-END. The bright sunny morning which greeted week-enders on Saturday belied its promise of a fine week-end, as during the afternoon light rain fell. A fine evening followed, and yesterday dawned bright and sunny. The sky became overcast during the morning, however, and later rain fell, light showers at first, then heavier, accompanied by thunder and lightning. This morning also broke fine and sunny, but became overcast about noon and more rain was considered possible. The maximum temperature registered yesterday was 61deg and the minimum was 50deg. Till noon to-day the maximum and minimum temperatures were the same as yesterday, while the barometer was steady at 29.8.
