OPEN TOURING
Oddly enough, in really tropical heat, open ears are coolest when closed. That is to say. when the sun is really very grilling it best to erect the hood, leaving the sides of the ear open. Those hoods which have a detachable rear panel score heavily in this respect. When leaving the car parked on a hot day, always put the hood up to keep the sun off. Leather- upholstery with the sun on it can become too hot for comfort, and burns to the touch like metal. Scuttle ventilators opened to the breeze are a boon when the air just above the floor hoards behind the engine becomes heated. After all, the air flowing backwards through the radiator carries the heat of the engine against the dashboard, which, coupled with the heat of the exhaust pipe and the heat generated in the gearbox, may become very warm indeed. Some cars are insulated in this respect. All ought to be. Before you throw open a scuttle ventilator, have the floor of the car swept out. It is extremely uncomfortable to be subjected to a miniature sandstorm.
