MARRIAGE OF WELL-KNOWN ALL BLACK

OLIVER—GURNEY. . On Thursday morning the wedding was celebrated at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Christchurch, of Charles Joshua, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Oliver, Malcolm Avenue, to Jean Frances, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. S. Gurney, Bealey Avenue. The bridegroom is a well-known sportsman who has represented New Zealand in football and cricket. He was vice-cap-tain of the 1935 All Black football team whihe toured Great Britain, and was a member of previous All Black teams. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. Lawson Robinson, and Mr R. E. Lake was organist. The bride wore a tailored frock of navy blue heavy-weight georgette and a short coat to match, patterned in an all-over scarlet leaf design. Her navy straw hat was banded with cire ribbon, and she wore also a scarf of scarlet georgette to match the bouquet of flowers which she carried. Air Gurney escorted his daughter, who was attended by Aliss Dorothy Dixon as bridesmaid. Aliss Dixon wore a jumper suit of navy satin-backed crepe with corded lacing at the neckline, and a navy straw hat relieved with a white band. She carried a bouquet of gold flowers. Mr K. Kearney (Wellington) was best man. A small reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents. Airs Gurney, who received the guests, wore a black tailored suit, a lace blouse, and a black velour , hat. Airs Oliver wore a black lace frock, a black cloth coat, and a wineberry model hat. When Air and Airs C. J. Oliver left for their wedding. tour the bride was wearing a suit v of Scottish tweed checked in grey and blue, a blue taffeta blouse, and a hat to match.
