CELEBRITY CONCERT

TO-NIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT Patrons of the celebrity concert to be presented by the National Broadcasting Service at the Town Hall this evening in aid of the mayor’s relief of distress fund will be entertained by a remarkable array of vocal and instrumental talent. Four world-famous artists are included in the programme, and they will be supported by the 4YA Orchestra, which will be making its first appearance under Mr Gil Dech. Florence Austral, the world-famous opera singer, will sing, among other items, ‘ Ocean, Thou Mighty Monster ’ (from ‘ Oberou ’), with orchestral accompaniment. Browning tenor, will be heard in ‘ La Donna E Mobile,’ from ‘ Rigoletto ’ (Verdi), and Sydney de Vries,, baritone, will sing ‘ The Two Comrades,’ ‘ The Two Grenadiers ’ (Schubert), and others. All these numbers will be with orchestral accompaniment. John Amadio, internationally acclaimed .flautist, will rendor among other numbers ‘ Song of India’ (for flute in B flat), RixnskyKorsakov), ‘ Air For Bass Flute ’ (Brahms), ‘ Moto Perpetuo ’ (Bridge), with Mr Carl Bartling at the piano. The 4YA Orchestra will play for the first time in New Zealand ‘ Four Way Suite ’ (Coates), and this piece is sure to be very much appreciated. Associated with these artists will be Miss Ethel AA r aliace (violinist), Air Max Scherek (pianist), Mrs Clarice Drake. Mr Carl Bartling (at the piano), and Dr V. E. Galway at the grand organ. Rarely indeed have four stars of such brilliance been associated together on a New Zealand concert platform, and certainly no such outstanding programme as that to be presented tpniglit has ever been offered to the music lovers of Dunedin. The programme is timed to commence punctually at 8 o’clock and patrons are requested to endeavour to be early, in order that all may bo seated by 8 o’clock.
