THE JOHNSTONE QUADRUPLETS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I am glad to read that the Johnstone quadruplets are receiving the recognition of the Government and a grant of £IOO is being made to the parents. I think it a disgrace to the people of Dunedin that so little has been done for the parents of these children. I understand that they are in humble circumstances, and surely if the quintuplets in Canada are so well looked after by the people of that country something substantial could be done for the Johnstone babies. My heart goes out to the mother Tvho is harried and harassed by the worries of bringing up a big family on a salary which must, under the circumstances, be totally inadequate. The local civic authorities should do something. I do not know the parents of the local quadruplets, but I understand that the mother has been besieged with visitors who hindered housework and left nothing behind for the babies. We read that the Dionne quintuplets will be millionaires before they reach adult age. The public of Dunedin will apparently see that this does not happen to our own Johnstone quadruplets. —I am, etc., Family Man, August 10.
