AMATEUR EVERTS 26-MILE RAGE The Dunedin Amateur Cycling Club’s 26-mile race from Green Island to Otokia and return this afternoon was won by W, Chalmers, with A. Kelly half a length behind second, A. Fletcher gaining fastest time, S. Murray, R. Fullerton, and A. Tate, the limit men, were sent off 6min ahead of the scratch bunch, consisting of A. Fletcher and M. Paterson. At Otokia Murray and Tate were half a minute ahead of Fullerton, whose chain had come off. Ralston, Chalmers, Brown, and Kelly followed half a minute later. Two minutes after Bullock, Fletcher, and Umbers turned, while Paterson had been dropped a long way back. At Allanton Chalmers and company caught the front men. Ralston was the first to drop off on the Saddle, while at the top Kelly and Chalmers broke away and led by 100yds. In a thrilling sprint Chalmers crossed the line half a length in front of Kelly.
