DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE Commercial Banks experienced a slight setback this morning, following the announcement of a dividend at the rate of 6 2-3 per cent, per annum on the ordinary shares, despite the fact that the dividend represents a rise from 5 5-6 per cent, paid for the preceding 12 months. Sales were effected last week at 19s 2d, but a parcel changed hands after the call this morning at 19s. Bank of New Zealand* remained firmer with buyers at 41s 3d. Only 3d separated the quotations for National Insurances, which were steady at 18s 7d to 18s lOd. In the loan and agency section New Zealand Loan and Mercantile ordinaries showed improvement with buyers at £32 and sellers at £36. A week ago the quotations were £3O and £34 respectively. Westport Coals were-a little easier, buyers being;3d and sellers 6d below Saturday’s rates. Woollen companies’ shares continued to be neglected. In the miscellaneous group . D.I.C. ords. moved up to buyers at 16s with sellers firm at 17s 3d. Dominion Fertilisers had a margin of 9d between quotations, and at 17s lOd Dunlop Rubbers were up 3d on the best buying offer last week. There was a good inquiry for Australian securities, such as Anthony Horderns, Associated News, Broken Hill Proprietarys and. Kauri Timbers, but the market was devoid of sellers. New Zealand Breweries continued to appreciate sharply, buyers offering Is more than on Saturday, without response. Electrolytic Zinc ordinaries ■ had reported business at £2, with, further buyers at 39s 6d and no seller. Mount Lyells .were steady, and other Australian mining issues were neglected. In local mining Gillespie’s Beacn shares provided business at the improved price of Is Id, after which the market was inclined to harden still'further. Government loans continued to provide a preponderance of buyers, in some cases at slightly improved rates. , • SALES REPORTED.
