COLD AMD VMSETTLED The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office', Wellington, covering the south* ern districts—-Dunedin, Port Chalmers* Tapanui, Wjnton. Invercargill, River* ton,Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:—• Barometers are still low over New Zealand, and depressions were centred this morning west of Cape Egmont and north of Chatham Islands respectively* Forecast: Moderate easterly winds, veering to southerlies, and freshening somewhat; weather cold and unsettled, with scattered rain, and on ranges snow, but mainly fair in the western area? seas moderate, hut a ponsiderable swell on the east coast. another dull day. This morning marked a- cessation of the rains falling during the past few; days. At noon the indications weres for an afternoon similar to yesterdaya dull and overcast sky, with scattered rains. The barometer registered 29.65 in. at 12 o’clock to-day. For at period of 24 hours yesterday the maximum and minimum temperatures werw 42.6 deg and 35.5 deg respectively. Corresponding readings taken at 11.55 p.m. to-day were 41deg and 37.5dcg* The rainfall yesterday amounted to .05in—a fall of .3in on the fall on Monday.
