WEATHER FORECAST
GOLD AND CHANGEABLE The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— A deep depression is now centred east of the North Island. An anti-cyclone covers Australia and the North Tasman Sea, but a series of secondary depressions is crossing tho South Tasman. Forecast: Moderate to strong winds, between south-west and northwest; weather, cold and changeable, with scattered showers at times, especially in southern parts; seas,_ moderate to'rather rough and increasing. HEAVY FROST. Early this morning there was bright sunshine, accompanied by a heavy overnight frost of 6deg. A slight fog was early in evidence, which thickened later. Indications at noon were for a fine afternoon, becoming colder towards evening. The maximum temperature for to-day was 47deg, as compared with 50.2 deg yesterday, with the minimum readings being 42deg and 32deg respectively. The barometer at noon was falling at 29.Cin, showing a fall of .2in from yesterday’s figure. There was no wind to-day or rainfall yesterday.
