PRINCIPAL’S REPORT. Tho report for May of the principal (.Mr W. G. Aldridge) stated that the half-yearly examinations had been fixed for June 24 to June 29, during which time nil ordinary teaching would he suspended. At a sale of Anzac stamps, held in the school during June, tho

sum of £4 8s was realised. There had been a noticeable loss of first-year pupils to occupations since the opening of the second term. This greatly interfered with the ordinary teaching and supervision duties of two teachers, who had asked, in the interests of their classes, that they should not be expected to produce a boy or girl for any employer at a few hours’ notice. They jointly suggested that the school should offer to employers and pupils these two services: (a) The maintenance of an employment register in which pupils willing' to accept employment might enter their names and the description of acceptable employment during each term ; any employer desiring to engage a boy or girl from the school should have the right to inspect this list, (b) The display of a printed notice on a convenient board giving details of vacancies that had been notified to the office; pupils anxious to obtain employment should examine this notice-board daily and see the proper school official at once. Taking this stand would practically mean that employers could not receive a pupil of the school into employment in less than 24 hours. During the mouth the school had received two presentations —two theodolites for the engineering laboratory from Professor James Park, and one reference book on building geometry from Mr G. H. Lightfoot. The presentations had boon greatly appreciated by the members of the trades staff. The report was adopted.
