MURDER FROM AMBUSH
NO CLUE IN WAIHOU SHOOTING MYSTERY MAN AT GATE [Per United Press Association.] WHANG ABET, June 12. There is still no clue to the murderer of Ernest Scverin Nelson at Waihou. There are now 12 police and detectives engaged. Detective-sergeant Walsh and Detective Slater have arrived from Auckland. One party is clearing with spades and slashers the rushes and other growth near the scene of the murder, while another party is making investigations near Kangmhua. The gun bought at Kaikohe on May 27 by Nelson was left at the home of Bawiri in the valley, likewise a box of cartridges, llawiri used the gun several times for shooting rabbits. This gun and another, which has been in Bawiri’s possession for some years, were those taken possession of by the police. Bawiri and his wife, also Mrs Nelson, were at the llangialma Hotel when the shooting occurred, and Bawiri gave no permission to anybody to use the guns. Jack Shaplaml, the conductor of the tri-weekly rural mail from Okaihau to Bangiahua, states that ho is sure two men were waiting at Nelson’s gate on the night of the tragedy. One took the mail, and the other (whom he believes to have been Nelson) stood back. The police do not attach importance to this statement.
