WHIPPET RAGING

NOTES AND COMMENTS [By Remind.] The committee has drawn up an attractive programme for its meeting to be held this mouth, having decided to have a cup for every race, including the Dewar and Waterloo. C. Unwin has been unfortunate in losing two dogs, Our Rose and Copper Tinge, after an attack of distemper. The latter was by Wynross ex Gold Tinge. G. Little has his dog, Phnephona, foing around again after his attack of istemper, but eye trouble is keeping him from racing at present. W. Guthrie believes in keeping his team fit, and they all looked well at the last meeting, W. Cumberbeach’s Gold Flight has a good margin in the points cup, which is for the dog that secures the best aggregate in six meetings. Gold Flight has seven points more than any other dog, and ho looks like a sure winner, but as he has to go into open class he mav find it hard to get many more points to his credit, although seven points are hard to get. At present Fred. Tanner still has distemper in his kennels, and he has had a very hard fight with some of his dogs. Ho has lost Sunny Southland, and this was one of his hopes of winning the Waterloo Cup. Comedy Star was a much improved dog last Saturday, and ran a great race in the novice handicp, but was unlucky later in the day to stumble against one of the standards, and received a nasty gash in one of his legs, which may keep him away from the track for a week or two. The Wellington-bred bitch, Cliften Lass, the winner of the maiden hurdles, ran a great race to beat some of the bigger dogs. D. Hutchinson has her in great fettle at present, and she may be the one to spring a surprise in the Waterloo Cup. Taurus is still inclined to climb during a race, a habit which he will lose when he races against older and faster dogs. His owner is still working him hard, with the prospects of picking up a few r more stakes in the near future.
