MOVEMENTS. Coastal. Parent arrived this morning from Port Waikato via ports, and will .sail this evening for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Dargavillc. Gale was expected to berth here tins afternoon, and it is hoped to despatch her late this evening for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Waimarino is clue to-morrow from Bluff, and is to sail later the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. r Kiwitea is due to-morrow from W cstport via Timaru. She is to sail on Monday for Bluff and Greymouth. Waipiata is leaving Auckland to-mor-row for Portland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. She is due here on Wednesday. Breeze is due here on Monday to load for Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui via ports. Holmdalo is scheduled to load here on Monday for Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui via ports. A now record for the run from Bluff to Lyttelton was made by the Blue Star Lino" motor ship Empire Stay, which arrived at Lyttelton this morning. Full speed was ordered at 5.25 p.m. on Wednesday outside Bluff, and the first reduction in speed was made at Lyttelton Heads at 10.12 a.m_. to-day. the elapsed time being 16h 47min. The average speed was 18.3 knots, nearly a knot faster than the speed required of vessels in file interisland service\between_ Wellington and Lyttelton to make their run in the usual time. PERSONAL. On the retirement of Captain F.. J. Thornton. R.D.. commodore of the P. and O. fleet. Captain E. A. J. W. Carter, R.N.R., has been given command of the Viceroy of India. Captitin J. B. Browning. R.N.R.. of the Maloja, who was appointed vice-commodore in February, is now commodore of the licet. Captain F. E. French has transferred his command from the Corfu to the Mooltan. WAITAKI IN DOCK. During the week ended April 1(. 1.02(5 vessels, representing 1,024.612 net register tons, used the Port of London. Of those 526 vessels (814,969 net register tons) were to and from I'.mpiro and foreign ports, and 500 vessels (209,040 net register tons’) were _ engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included six meat cargoes—viz., four from New Zealand and two from South America—comprising 219.000 carcasses ol lamb and mutton. 105.000 quarters of heel, fpianlities of pork, rabbits, and sundries.

SERVICES TO THE ISLANDS. The Union Company’s Matua is expeeled to reach Auckland from the United Kingdom early in August, and It lias been decided she vfill iea'e Auckland on August 27 on her first island trip. From Auckland she goes to Nukualofa, Apia, and Suva.
