A now record for the run from Bluff to Lyttelton was made by the Blue Star Lino" motor ship Empire Stay, which arrived at Lyttelton this morning. Full speed was ordered at 5.25 p.m. on Wednesday outside Bluff, and the first reduction in speed was made at Lyttelton Heads at 10.12 a.m_. to-day. the elapsed time being 16h 47min. The average speed was 18.3 knots, nearly a knot faster than the speed required of vessels in file interisland service\between_ Wellington and Lyttelton to make their run in the usual time. PERSONAL.
