THE WAIHOU MURDER
$ LARGE BODY OF ROUGE SEARCHING So far the police have no clue as to the murderer of Ernest Scvcriu Nelson, fanner, who was shot dead at poilit-r/ank range in the garden of his home at AVaihon. Many avenues have been investigated ami statements obtained from farm employees and Maoris living in the Native settlement .at Uangihua, about live miles away, but no enlightenment resulted. It was discovered to-day that the deceased bought a shotgun at Kaikohe on May 27, but the weapon was not taken to Ids homo, being left with friends some distance up the valley/ An examination of the body shows that the gunshot entered the back at the left side, travelling upwards, piercing the heart and lungs and penetrating to the second rib on the right-hand side, suggesting that the murderer lay on the ground behind the briar hush awaiting his victim. Further police reinforcements will be engaged to-morrow.
