FRUIT AND PRODUCE
Reporting on the fruit and produce markets, Reilly’s Mart Ltd. states that values have improved for good lines of dessert apples, Stunners in particular having an excellent inquiry. Cooking apples are also selling satisfactorily. For dessert and cooking pears prices show an improvement. Hothouse tomatoes have an excellent inquiry, and late consignments of grapes also have a good demand. Transhipments of Californian oranges, grapefruit, and lemons, as well as Rarotongan oranges, ox the Makura, arrived during the week, and met excellent sales, supplies being cleared out on arrival. Some nice consignments of walnuts have been coming to hand, values being reasonable. Cape gooseberries. marmalade oranges, and pie melons have an excellent inquiry, supplies this year being much shorter than previous seasons. Hulk honey has a good demand, and mutton birds have advanced in price. The vegetable market is quiet, cauliflowers still selling at low rates. Marrows, pumpkins, potatoes, and onions are meeting steady sales. The egg market is firm. Prices remain unchanged at 2s for guaranteed.
