ROSLYN-KAIKORAI RATEPAYERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers’ Association was held last night. There were present Alessrs P. L. Ritchie (chairman), P. Findlay, All Thompson, J. Aloir, D. A. O’Connell, and A. D. Sutherland (secretary). Correspondence was received from the City ' Council in connection with various matters submitted by the association for approval. Tho Chairman, explaining tho new thoroughfare proposition, which was discussed at the previous meeting, said it was then considered that if Mr Adkins’s property in Kaikorai Valley road was acquired by the City Council it was thought that a thoroughfare connection with County road and Wakari would ho of great service to the district. This idea was submitted to the City Council and a reply had been received to the effect that the proposal to acquire the area of land between Kaikorai Valley road and the closed portion of Nairn street for the purpose of forming a road had been considered by the Works Committee. The committee had decided against the proposal, stating that it did not appear necessary to duplicate tho route to Wakari and that the property offered was not in tho best position to give the desired result.
It was reported that the delay in commencing the running of the now Diesel buses along Higligate to and from Maori Hill was due to the late arrival of the automatic doors to be fitted to the buses. 'The date of commencing the new service would be the end of Juno, when two of the most modern buses would run via City road. Several members referred to the dog nuisance and the state of the main streets.
It was stated that breaches of the speed regulations by motor cars were becoming very noticeable. The secretary was instructed to write to the authorities asking that a watch be kept in Highgate in the evenings. Members said it was pleasing to note the disappearance of the old burned building in Kaikorai Valley road. Reference was also made to the progress being made in widening the road. The secretary was instructed to writ-o to owners of sections fronting lower Newington Avenue requesting them To cut the hedges back to the road line.
