GUIDES AND SCOUTS
CONCERT AT MCSGIEL To raise funds for the Girl Guides and .Boy Scouts’ movements a concert was held last night in the Coronation Hail. Mosgiel, over which the Rev. Hugh Graham presided. The hall was well filled with an enthusiastic audience. Local and visiting talent provided the programme, the visitors including a double quartet party from the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Choir (Mesws A. Moore. IV. N. Satterthwaite. T. Bnllantyne, 0. Holden, P, S. Anderson, L. U. Borrow. G. Swan, and L. Coughlan). The programme reflected much credit on the promoters and performers. The performers were: —Item, Sandy Thomson and his jazz hand; song, Mr J. Botting; display, Grecian drill, Girl Guides; song, Mrs T. Brydone; humorous sketch, ‘ A Lucky Mistake,’ Miss Swallow and Mr J. Whitson; jungle dances, Cubs; quartet, members Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ _ Choirj play, ‘ Catherine Parr,’ Guides -V. Borrow, M. Ashby, and Scout Allan; signalling display, Boy Scouts; song, Mrs A. Chisholm; tap dance, Guides V. Kaye and M. Bremuer; song, Mrs W. D. G. Hartley; character song, ‘To a Miniature,’ Guides P. Brown and N. Borrow; physical drill display, Boy Scouts; quartet, members Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Choir; play, ‘ A Guide's Honour,’ Guides M. Brcmner. J. Thomson. •). Williamson. V. Kayo, and 1). Brnhns; song, Mrs A. Chisholm; camp fire, Guides company. The accompaniments were played by Mns L. B. Borrow and Miss K. Wilson. The Chairman welcomed Metropolitan Commissioner Wing and District Scoutmaster Black. He styled the Scouts a league of the youth of nations From their jamboree the golden arrows of goodwill were shot north, south, cast, and west in the certainty that wherever the arrow fell it would lodge in the heart of a friemh Boys were trained iu good citizenship. The movement put a boy on his honour to do his duty to God, to the Kang, and to his neighbour. None could fail to recogirse the friendliness and noliteness of the Bay Scout or Girl Guide. In closing his’ remarks Mr Graham made special- reference to the work of Lieutenant Margaret Swallow, of th" Girl Guides, and Scoutmaster Weddell. of the Boy Scouts. Their work amongst the young hoys nnd l _ girls was deserving of the highest praise.
